Play Design and Learn Blog and Vlog #2

On the weekend we played a round of Mice and Minions with the new rules applied.  The new rules being that of no endless waves and a board full of enemies which advance one step forward at the end of each round.

This time around we ran into an issue with a player who's card drafting did not allow them to turn around to and by the end of the second round they could do nothing and subsequently they got bored that they were distracted by other things.  As you will see in vlog #2.

The game while half the time still ran 40 mins which was really pushing the boundaries of my 6 year old's attention span.

We are going to attempt a 3rd playthrough this upcoming weekend where we are planning to introduce a forced trading mechanic during the draft.

We are going to try trading 2 cards either from draft or on your board each round in the following pattern.

Round 1 - Trade to the person Across from you
Round 2 - Trade to the person on your Left
Round 3 - Trade to the person on your Right
Round 4 - Keep your own Cards

If the game goes longer than 4 rounds you will repeat the pattern until the game ends.  We are also wondering if one of the abilities that can be gained while playing called Memory Core.  Once stacked to full power allows a person to draft 6 cards during the drafting page.  We are hoping that by introducing the card trading system will help to balance it out a little more.

As this is a cooperative game we will allow players to ask for types of cards that they want.  For older players or if you would want to make the game more challenging you could take that rule out an make it a blind trade.
